First Week

At the request of Emily I will update you on my new job. I started on Monday after 4 wonderful days off. Last week was amazing just to catch up on life, get to hang out with my 7th grade small group, and see friends. It was so refreshing.

The new job is going great. It's very different than what I did at PwC, but I think it's going to be really interesting once I get the hang of things a little more. Most of all, I love the atmosphere. The people I work with are great. It's so different to be here. Yesterday we had staff prayer - I felt more like I was at a bible study than at work. And even though I work on the business side of things, it's really neat to be in this atmosphere and just to be a part of a ministry that I love.

Anyway - you will get more updates as I settle in. Thank you for all your prayers in this process. I feel very blessed.

Launch Retreat

For Labor Day weekend I went a young adults retreat with my church at Pine Cove. Even though it wasn't my usual favorite thing to do - because it involved getting out of my comfort zone a lot more than I would like - I ended up having a lot of fun. There were a lot of team games - which means I got to play a significant amount of volleyball, which means I have been a bit sore this week! The speakers were great - I always enjoy our pastor, and I'll jump on any oppurtunity to hear Matt Chandler speak! I'm excited about showing up to more young adult things at church now because I'll actually know some more people.

My possible favorite part of the weekend was just getting to be outside. East Texas is absolutely georgous with the trees and the weather cooled off just right. It was so nice to be out of the city and just enjoy the outdoors!

My New Job!

Wow - it's exciting to type those words. I didn't think it would ever happen. After I finish up my September 15th deadline here at PwC, I will start work as the accountant for Watermark Community Church. There are so many things that are truly amazing about the way this has worked out. I didn't even have to go looking, it just fell in my lap. It's been amazing to see how God has worked out all the little details through it all. Some of the things that I am most excited about are:

- working in an encouraging environment with other believers!
- wearing jeans, flips flops, and t-shirts to work.
- working less than 5 minutes from my apartment - no more traffic!
- already knowing so many people there, so much less awkwardness for the first day!
- so much more time to spend with friends, my 7th grade girls, and other people.
- and working a normal schedule!!!!!!!!

This weekend I'm headed to a young adults retreat at Pine Cove. I think it's going to be a great time to hang out with some single student ministries girls and make some great new friends.

Leaving...

My new-found discovery is that every time I talk to someone I was in accounting classes with at Baylor, it seems like I hear about someone new leaving the Big 4 or planning their escape. It's pretty exciting to see everyone's next phase of life. I mean, we all knew it would happen. Not many people go into public accounting planning on staying for forever, it's just been different than most of us thought. As I sat at lunch with some of my girlfriends downtown yesterday and discussed our misconceptions and plans for getting out, it was just exciting to me to see how God uses the year or two that He puts us there to grow us and put us through the ringer, but then gives us things that are so much better. I can't wait to see and tell you what God has for me next!

This weekend Melissa was in town from Houston and we got to go to the lake. It was great to get to hang out and spend time outside on the water :) This is all of us on the boat!

Nothing too exciting...

Nothing too exciting here, I just thought I should update you all on what's going on in my life a little. It's been a great couple of weeks since I've been back from New Orleans. Despite some super long hours at work I've managed to go to the lake, hang out with my roommate & her parents, get some good quality Michelle time in, and get a new haircut. I will have to take a picture of the new haircut soon & get it up here.

God is teaching me so much lately about where I am and the people around me. I was talking to my mom last night about the crazy world I've been thrown into since I graduated from Baylor, and looking back, I don't think I'd trade it. As miserable as it is most days, there are some great relationships that have come out of this place and if God has allowed me to touch just one life while I've been here, then that is so worth all the hours, all the tears, and all the heartache.

My parents & my sister are coming on Saturday on their way through from College Station to Amarillo and I am super excited about getting to hang out with them. I love getting to have my family here.
