Tree Trimming

I got a notice from the city of Richardson about my trees in the alley needing to be trimmed. They gave me four days to do it. So tonight I learned to use this.

Now my hand is cramping. If I can't do tax returns tomorrow, this is why!

Progress...

I have had a blast starting to get the house in order.  My movers came on Thursday and my parents came this weekend to help me unpack and get organized and do some projects around the house.  It's starting to take shape.  So, here's a few pictures of the progress.

The Front:

The Living Room. Before, with paint, and with furniture:

The Bedroom. With paint and with furniture:

The Breakfast Room.  Before, with paint, and with furniture:

Kitchen. Before and after:

The Office. With paint only.  It's currently the collection area for everything that doesn't have a home.

It definitely still needs a lot of work.  Curtains in the living room and breakfast room. Pillows for the couch.  A bigger mirror or painting in the breakfast room.  And finishing touches all over the place, but I do absolutely love it!

And a bonus picture, the "protector" of the house that the old owner left on the front porch:

A Few Thoughts on Home Ownership

  • I am officially, officially a homeowner. Keys in hand and everything.
  • That is just crazy.  I love it, but it also freaks me out at certain moments.
  • I went over last night and put some paint samples on the walls of several rooms.  I can't wait to see what they look like in daylight.
  • I'll start blogging the process.  The house is really move-in-ready, so there won't be too much to blog.  But I'll document the process from white walls to color and empty rooms to filled with furniture for sure.
  • This weekend is going to be filled with painting.  And I'm so excited about it.  I have some great friends who are going to come help me.  It should be a blast.
  • My parents are coming next weekend after I get all my stuff moved to help me unpack and organize and do little projects.  I'm so excited for them to see my house!
  • I just typed my house.  I have a house.  That's crazy.
  • And that's all. See you soon with pictures!

Rolling

So....me and my friends never really did the whole TP'ing, Rolling, Wrapping, whatever you want to call it thing in junior high and high school.  Perhaps because trees were not overly abundant in the Texas panhandle?  I'm not sure.

Anyways.  Last weekend, during DTown, I get a text from Brooke, who walked out Sunday morning to this:

So, the boys who did it cleaned up some, but there was still stuff in the trees almost a week later. Last Saturday morning, the roommates and I spent some time attempting to stand on ladders with brooms and get the remaining toilet paper out of the trees.  I can't say we were completely successful.  I think the rain this week almost finished the job for us.  All I have to say is that you won't see me wrapping anyone's house anytime soon now that I've experienced cleaning it up! You also won't find me handing out my new address to any leader's of junior high boys!

Julie trying to reach the really high branches.  She almost got it!

Terrible photography, but it commemorates the occasion for sure!
